Abstract	Three core learning objectives in the University Studies (general education) curriculum at Southeast Missouri State University were targeted for assessment: the ability to locate and gather information; the ability to think, reason, and analyze critically; and the ability to communicate effectively. The Assessment Committee, an interdisciplinary faculty group, met to discuss the evaluation of these objectives as evidenced by students' performances on assignments in their senior interdisciplinary seminars. Members of the committee, using students' work produced in these capstone courses, met with instructors of the seminars to discuss characteristics of successful student demonstrations of the three objectives. Based on these conversations, the committee developed three scoring guides, one to assess each of the objectives. (ERIC).
