Abstract | Sometimes Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) offer an answer that is somewhat different from the answer that is probably expected by the student or teacher. These (somewhat unexpected) answers could serve as a catalyst for rich mathematical discussion. In this study, over 120 equations from school mathematics were solved using 8 different CAS. Many answers offered by the CAS coincide with the expected answers. This paper focuses on the answers that deviated from expectations in some sense. The aim of this paper is to present a spectrum of possible differences and to highlight the situations (equations, CAS) in which a particular type of discrepancy could occur. Furthermore, some remarks are provided about educational use of the differences in classes. (As Provided). |
