Abstract | Parks, libraries, museums and other cultural organizations represent a diverse array of assets and share a broad mission to serve their communities, however, some may not realize the roles that these institutions can and do play in supporting young people during out-of-school time hours. This issue of the "Out-of-School Time Policy Commentary" series explores the unique resources these groups bring to the table, featuring examples of cutting edge practice and partnerships and highlighting current policy opportunities and challenges. By interviewing several national experts and reviewing existing literature, the authors of this publication attempt to answer such questions as: How big of a role do museums, parks and libraries play in young people's lives? What does it look like when these institutions work together on behalf of young people? Is out-of-school time an important part of the future identity of museums, parks and libraries? (Contains 2 figures, 1 table, and 14 endnotes.) (As Provided). |
