Abstract | The annual Illinois Teacher Salary Study presents selected statistical information on teacher salary policies, salary schedules, actual salaries paid, and fringe benefits. Tables cover: (1) statewide summary data by district type and size; (2) individual districts' salary schedule and selected policy/provision information; (3) individual area vocational centers' salary schedule and selected policy/provision information; (4) individual special education cooperatives' salary schedule and selected policy/provision information; and (5) policy cost and percent the board paid for fringe benefits per employee and family. The statewide median scheduled salaries for beginning teachers at the bachelor's and master's degree levels are $22,717 and $25,079, respectively. The medians of the maximum scheduled salaries for experienced teachers at these same degree levels are $34,128 and $41,172, respectively, and the median for the highest scheduled salaries is $44,585. Districts with larger enrollment size tend to adopt higher scheduled salaries than smaller districts. The median of the highest scheduled salaries for districts under 500 enrollment is $35,357; the corresponding median for districts with 12,000 or more enrollment is $62,070. Districts located in and near Cook County (Chicago) also tend to have higher scheduled salaries. Appendices list county names and code numbers and include the 1996-97 salary study form. (ND) |
