AbstractThis document presents proceedings of a conference convened to identify the unmet spiritual and other non-material needs of Southeast Asian refugee children and youth and to offer recommendations to strengthen present programs and policies. Participants included leaders in the refugee community, clergy of several faiths, organizational policymakers, service providers, and others in service to refugee children, all of whom were interested in healing the spiritual and mental wounds inflicted by war. The proceedings report consists of five major sections. The first section, "Welcome," includes opening statements and the address of the keynote speaker. The second section, "Perspectives," presents seven speeches reflecting the concerns and viewpoints of parents, foster parents, clergy, Amerasians, and mental health professionals. The third section, "Solution-Oriented Strategies," contains eight presentations dealing with foster care; foster parenthood; summer camp programs; the preservation of religious, spiritual, and cultural heritages; mental health programs; intergenerational programs; and multicultural programs. The fourth section is an extemporaneous summary of the preceding presentations. The fifth section summarizes recommendations for clergy, faith-based communities, parents, foster parents, mental health professionals, resettlement agencies, and agencies serving unaccompanied refugee minors, educators, and youth. A list of presenters and participants is appended. (AF)
