| Abstract | This document presents data from an evaluation designed to investigate the regulation of family day care homes in Texas. Since January 1, 1976 all such facilities providing regular care, defined as on-going care, have been required to register as family day care homes. Evaluation data revealed that between January, 1976 and July, 1978 the number of family day care homes under regulation increased significantly; the cost of registering family day care units was significantly less than that of licensing; and family day care providers expressed preference for registration over traditional licensing. The document also includes a survey of attitudes towards regulation of family day care homes and characteristics of registered family homes in Texas; cost comparisons between licensing and registration; complaints of child abuse and neglect against registered family homes; and a validation study. Four appendices include copies of questionnaires, materials sent to providers of day care, registration forms, and coded statements from a content analysis of the survey of attitudes. (Author/DB) |
