AbstractThis issue contains three articles in Spanish, with abstracts in English, dealing with the following topics: (1) technical and scientific language; (2) some types of misrenderings by students in translating from English to Spanish and implications for language instruction; and (3) some theoretical aspects of the formation of technical terms in English. The distinction between scientific and technical language is discussed in the first article, particularly the difference between the language of cultural sciences and the language of natural sciences and mathematics, and the influence of the particular language on scientific language in it. In the second article, three general types of misrenderings are classified on the basis of their source: omission, addition and substitution. According to its complexity, subtypes within each type are analyzed. Pedagogical implications are given. In the third article, the discussion focuses on the important role played by the communication process in scientific and technological research both in conveying information and expressing it properly. Of equal importance is the understanding of the process of formation of scientific and technical terminology. Terms, definitions and concepts are analyzed to enable the reader, particularly the second language teacher, to understand the mechanism involved in the creation of words and concepts. (AMH)
