| Abstract | Reported on in this document are the proceedings of a conference on minority group problems. The problems of alcohol, drug abuse and mental health, and public policies at the State, local and Federal levels as they impact upon racial minorities are some of the issues discussed. Areas of concern focused on include: (1) treatment; (2) precipitating, predisposing and contributing factors of alcoholism, drug abuse and mental illness among minorities; (3) factors that should be addressed in the area of research; (4) manpower needs and resources; (5) accreditation of minority service providers; (6) prevention; (7) special needs of rural and migrant minorities; (8) socioeconomic influences; and (9) institutionalization and deinstitutionalization. Specific recommendations and implementation strategies for dealing with these issues are suggested. In addition, the participants and recommendations of four specific minority group networks (Asian Americans, blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans) are listed. Appended are listings of conference participants, planning committee members, resource documents and a sample of the conference agenda. (EB) |
