Abstract | Presented in the second volume on the Home-Oriented Preschool Education project are responses of a National Panel of Child Development scholars to a "prime competency list" for normal children up to 6-years-old. The competencies, drawn from a literature search, include behaviors in five categories: classification, communication, coordination, habits and attitudes, and social relationships. Reported are the panel members' critiques and suggestions for revision of each competency. Provided is the early childhood competency rating scale sent to National Panel members and Appalachian Panel members (whose names are listed) to evaluate the empirical research support for the competencies.
