Abstract	This book provides practical advice on recognizing the symptoms, understanding the medication, and accessing the necessary support at school as well as the managing the day-to-day challenges of parenting a child with bipolar disorder. It draws on case studies to show what bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Tourette syndrome and Asperger syndrome have in common, how they differ, and how they relate to each other. Specific chapters address: (1) identifying the presence of bipolar disorder; (2) the brain chemistry of bipolar disorder and the drugs to treat it; (3) understanding and managing rage in children with early onset bipolar disorder; (4) change strategies for adolescents with bipolar disorder; (5) the empathy factor; (6) innovative non-pharmacological treatment approaches; (7) helping the oppositional child; (8) helping a child with bipolar disorder and Asperger syndrome; (9) how to help children with Tourette syndrome and bipolar disorder; (10) differences between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder; (11) how to choose the best neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists, schools, and teachers for the child with wild and extreme behavior; and (12) how to make police involvement or psychiatric hospitalization part of the healing plan.
