AbstractThe French as a Second Language model test (intermediate level) was designed as a criterion-referenced test using established criteria to measure attainment of learner expectations outlined in the Alberta (Canada) second language curriculum. It is intended for use at the junior and senior high school levels. Each test is based on an organizing theme that allows for integration of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing). An introductory section describes the test and its design. The administrative guide itself includes the student test instructions and response booklet for listening and reading comprehension and for writing, the student test and response booklet for oral production, and in appendix form, the oral text translations, a test correction guide with specific assessment criteria and item assessment checklists, tables for analyzing test results, and lists of learner expectations from the curriculum and other notes for understanding test format and the cognitive levels tested. A worksheet for test item development is also included. Most explanatory text in the guide is in both French and English. (MSE)
