Abstract | The materials from the Mathematics at Work in Society were designed to increase awareness of the connection between mathematics and careers for students of grade 8 or more. This book is designed so that it can be used in a variety of ways by students, teachers, and counselors. The information is on many different careers and the way in which mathematics is used in these careers. There are eight career areas featured in this book. Each one describes some professions and gives some examples of math at work in this career area and activities related to the career area. Career areas included are: (1) fine arts; (2) business; (3) construction; (4) energy; (5) food; (6) health; (7) science and technology; and (8) transportation. Sections are also included on statistics and computer science. (RH) |
