Abstract | The study is devoted to programmes taught in the English language provided by European higher education institutions in countries where English is not the "natural" medium of instruction, i.e. not the domestic language. This new form of tuition has recently become the object of lively debate, as a major instrument of innovation in internationalisation, but also as a means of increasing competitiveness of European institutions in an emerging global market of higher education. This study answers questions on "English-language-taught degree programmes" (ELTDPs) in Europe for the first time. it is based on two large-scale surveys of nearly 1600 higher education institutions across Europe. Content: 1. Executive summary. - 2. Objectives and methods. - 3. The quantitative importance of English-language-taught degree programmes in individual European countries. - 4. The institutional context. - 5. characteristics of English-language-taught degree programmes. - 6. Introduction and operation of English-language-taught degree programmes. - 7. Conclusions and recommendations. (HoF/text adopted). |
