Abstract	Dieser Aufsatz beschäftigt sich mit der sozialpädagogischen Funktion und der symbolischen Dimension schulischer Räume am Beispiel einer weiterführenden Schule, dem Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Castellón, Ende de 19. und Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts in Spanien. Die Räume werden hier als Kontrollinstrumente, Erinnerungsorte und Orte der Soziabilität gesehen, in denen eine spezifische soziale und politische Ordnung reproduziert wird. School Spaces, Discourses of Power and Social Imaginaries (Abstract): School buildings have not been neutral spaces where the learning process takes place. Rather they are places with a strong symbolic meaning that, together with the legislation, textbooks or other curricular materials, affect the teaching-learning and the configuration of certain sociocultural representations, though in a silent and banal way. This text analyzes the social and educational function and the symbolic dimension of school space from the study of the former Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de Castellón over the last decades of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The object is to reflect on these spaces as instruments of control, as memory locations and as areas of sociability where a specific social and political order is reproduced."
