Abstract | Forms of preservation of historical monuments exist in both fields of adult education: Traditional institutions like Volkshochschule offer a range of activities dealing with different groups of monuments. Furthermore, there are non-institutionalized offers like the European heritage days or private initiatives of citizens. A review based on an anthropological disposition to perceive buildings and space reveals longlasting relations between the preservation of historical monuments and pedagogy. In times of accelerating technical innovation, there is a general need to preserve i.e. old buildings or historical gardens in compensation of loss experiences, whereas especially the age group 40+ shows great interest in the conservation of historical monuments. Adult education therefore aims at improving future living conditions as well as at giving orientation in private life. (DIPF/Orig.). |
