Abstract | If education should enable human beings to live and act in their families, their jobs and in the society as politically aware citizens, then just the occupation with the past (Erinnerungsarbeit) is serving this central aim of education, but has to meet qualitative claims to be successful. The political and educational attitude towards both dictatorial systems in Germany, the development and strengthening of a culture of memory by teaching historical knowledge and facts should lead to personal responsible conduct and development in the liberal constitutional state. This ethics is - in a wide range - constitutional for the functioning of the two memorial complexes in Saxony, the complex Bautzen and Bautzner Straße / Dresden which [is] presented in this article. Concerning these two memorial complexes [the authors] give information about the historical locations, and lay different emphasis on aims, methods, results and problems of their memorial performance. To do this we have to know that the communist system in Germany could only be analyzed adequately if the Nazi past is kept in mind. (DIPF/Orig.). |
