Abstract | "International education should, by definition, assume intercultural communication interactions. If this is not the case, then what is the point? Why would those who study internationally place themselves in an educational environment that does not expect and afford opportunities for interactions with persons from culturally different backgrounds?" The authors collected information from 64 students from 20 nations who were enrolled in US universities to examine these research questions: "1) How do international students characterize their reluctance to engage in intercultural communication interactions? 2) What barriers do [they] perceive for effective intercultural communication intertactions? 3) What do [they] believe might be done to facilitate effective intercultrual communication interactions?"
