Abstract | The author analyses the transition between education and work of adolescents on the basis of a PGLS cohort survey, which has traced young Russians' school-to-work transitions between 1985 and 1993. Section one characterises youth transitions under communism, when education, training and jobs for all were declared as priorities, which were "reflected in school curricula, in the allocation of the 'potential labour force' (i. e. children and young people) to different kinds of schools, and state-controlled distribution of people to jobs". Section two reviews the dislocation of regulated transitions between education and work. Section three formulates conclusions on accelerated transitions in uncertain times. (DIPF/St.). |
