Abstract | Introduction -- Empowering digital citizens -- Want a community project? Dive in the context first! -- Preparing teachers to work with the enlarged community -- The community in action: From printed school newspaper to video news services -- A never ending project -- Lessons learnt and moving forward. "This book details the project 'Digital Citizenship Education for Democratic Participation' involving approximately 200 pre-school and primary school children, their families, teachers and community members in Lisbon locality. The research presented aims to answer the following question: To what extent can a local (and replicable) project, teachers in and out-of-school contexts including families, empower preschool and primary-school-aged children to become active and effective citizens in the digital era? This longitudinal study was organized as a longitudinal and exploratory project inspired by the work of Julian by Sefton-Green amongst other researchers. Through this book we share the steps taken along the project, the main difficulties we faced and the solutions we found to overcome them as well as project sustainability"--Provided by publisher. |
