Abstract | "Leading Powerful Professional Learning is a guide for leaders of professional learning grounded in the principle of adaptive expertise. Adaptive expertise describes the way that professionals need to respond in the moment, in a range of contexts, and draw on deep knowledge to make good decisions rather than following a routine or script. Central to this conceptualization of professional learning is the idea that educational improvement is driven by the use of evidence-based inquiry. The authors focus on the skills, attitudes and dispositions of PL leaders who see their role as active problem solvers of complex problems, rather than "prescribers." As such, this approach is entirely congruent with ESSA's and Learning Forward's definitions of professional learning, as well as the work of John Hattie, Vivianne Robinson, and Jenni Donohoo. The book is based on a the results of a five-year research study that was designed to identify and understand professional learning facilitation practices that are associated with positive outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse students"--Provided by publisher. |
