Abstract | A long term, ever broadening search for ideas from multiple disciplines strengthens creative thinking for many gifted young people, especially if the search is guided by the evolving interests of the individual. Instead of asking students to delve deeply into a particular topic, encourage them to allow one point of study to suggest others, and consider ideas that connect across disciplines. At some point narrow, in-depth specialization will be the goal, but delay the impulse to specialize as long as possible. This article presents some of the interdisciplinary themes that can be used for study by individual students. Discussion questions follow each theme. Themes include: (1) Universalist vs. Particularist Morality; (2) Inconspicuous Indigenous Leadership; (3) Warlike Romanticism; (4) The Plague of the Industrial Media; (5) The Continuum of Consent; and (6) Transitions to Post-Materialist Values. These are just a few of many creative themes that may be uncovered during a broad scope, interdisciplinary search. At some point, students should start zeroing in on a particular field or domain of interest. (ERIC). |
