Abstract | Post-secondary institutions are increasingly interested in the collection of data to support institutional planning. With increase in the proportion of women going to college today than they did a decade ago, our understanding of how gender gaps in college enrollment affect the nature and the types of degrees being conferred by colleges and universities in the United States is limited. This study takes an exploratory approach to gender gaps in college enrollment and degree attainment of students at a suburban comprehensive university. The study reveals that women now earn the majority of undergraduate degrees and are majoring in many disciplines that have been traditionally sought after or dominated by men. Implications of this gender imbalance in degree attainment are discussed. (Contains 3 tables.) (As Provided). |
