Abstract | In this article, the authors discuss a hybrid program that included a ten-day interdisciplinary study abroad trip to France, followed by ten days of online learning. Students were recruited from across the university through campus-wide marketing and recruiting events, but the majority of the students who enrolled were those majoring in one or both of the disciplines of the co-leading faculty: one from History and the other a geographer from a combined Anthropology and Geography department. Both faculty members have considerable in-country living experience, fluent language skills, and local familial ties, all of which facilitated trip planning and execution. The hybrid model helped reduce the cost of the study abroad component by reducing its duration and thus made it economically accessible to more students. It also enabled students to enroll in a variety of course and credit options. (ERIC). |
