AbstractThe 10th anniversary of Common Core's launch offers the opportunity to take stock of the impact these nearly national standards have had on student learning, as well as their future prospects. In this article, Morgan Polikoff shares his view that the standards movement in general, and Common Core in particular, have achieved all they are going to at this point. The impacts from the policy are not nothing, but they are definitely not enough to solve the problems of America's K-12 public schools. Polikoff discusses the impact Common Core has had on achievement, implementation woes, the staying power of the standards, and his ideas for taking a new approach to change the system.
