AbstractClimate change provides an opportunity for law professors to prepare students to raise informed, insightful questions about the legal and ethical challenges climate-related disasters present for individuals and businesses. Additionally, students might be prepared to answers their questions, drawing upon what they have learned in their Legal Environment of Business course. The purpose of this article is to show professors how to energize the environmental law unit in the Legal Environment of Business course using superstorms, environmental justice principles, and total participation techniques (TPTs). Instead of organizing the environmental law unit around a textbook chapter, this article suggests organizing the unit around disasters exacerbated by climate change. The article highlights superstorm Harvey and later introduces the Camp Fire, which destroyed Paradise, California. If professors can provoke students with information about climate-related disasters, they can inspire them to use the textbook as a resource to consider as they contemplate the extent to which laws and rules protect and preserve today's environment. Additionally, superstorms and their aftermath raise issues of environmental justice, a topic that is likely to spark debate and dialogue about inequality in the United States and around the world.
