Abstract | By the year 2045, demographers project that the United States will become a minority-majority nation--and in our elementary schools, this shift is already playing out. With these demographic changes also comes shifts and segregation in our neighborhoods--the compositions of public schools are strongly linked to individual housing choices, and public school reputations are directly influencing the valuation of local housing markets. This article looks at the challenges that demographics and housing markets have on the diversity and resource allocation of schools, and suggests ways--large and small--that education leaders can work with and in spite of these issues to provide a rich learning environment for all students.
