AbstractMichael F. Shaughnessy is currently Professor of Educational Studies at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. Bryan Barnes is a graduate student in Speech Language Pathology at Eastern New Mexico University and is pursuing a Master's degree in that field. In this article, Shaughnessy, and Barnes, offer up a reflective conversation they shared with Dorothy Sisk, and Hava Vidergor about the importance of identifying and developing leadership as a much needed type of giftedness. Vidergor's recent book, "Enhancing the Gift of Leadership: Innovative Programs for All Grade Levels," focuses on leadership development and the benefits to society of students learning to practice social responsibility, widening their circles of influence, and contributing to others, as well as to themselves. Here Vidergor discusses the lack of commitment in including leadership in gifted programs that helped her decide to write the book. Dorothy A. Sisk, is a professor of Gifted Education and has served as the director of the US Office of the Gifted and Talented; as president, vice president and executive administrator of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children; and as president of The Association for the Gifted (TAG). Some topics discussed during this encounter with Sisk and Vidergor include: (1) How do teachers become more culturally aware of the gifted population; (2) How teachers provide gifted students opportunities to become global leaders; (3) The recommended leadership model teachers should use; and (4) Their thoughts on the most important thing teachers can teach gifted students concerning leadership; (5) Mentorship, and (6) Names of some people they would consider to be leaders in the field of leadership and their contributions.
