Abstract | One of the most distinctive musical genres that originated in Cuba over the past century is "cha-cha-chá," which is attributed to Enrique Jorrín during the 1950s. The popularity of this music has grown considerably since its genesis, as evidenced by the vast array of repertoire, the multitude of bands performing it, and its prevalence in popular culture. This article explores the history of cha-cha-chá, its musical elements, Enrique Jorrín's influence on the creation and performance of the genre, and the importance of cha-cha-chá in music education in the United States. Due to its musical significance and social impact, it is important to understand cha-cha-chá's place in modern Cuba, how it has been preserved over time, and how it can be taught in music classrooms at all levels.
