AbstractThe practice of Human Resource Development (HRD) work often occurs in consulting opportunities at ongoing businesses, agencies and non-profit organizations. These are the spaces where human resources development (HRD) consultants hone their skills and affect change in work settings. Consultants in HRD utilize skills not only across the HRD field of practice such as assessment, analysis, organizational development and organizational change, but also in interpersonal areas such as communications, trust building and mutual acceptance (Schien, 1999). The process of consulting effectively requires more than a briefcase of procedures or a model for counseling with others. It requires a combination of HRD skills and personal integrity, both of which are brought to the table to assist a client in addressing the client's issues (Rothwell, Benscoter, Park, Woocheol, and Zabellero, 2014). This short case presents a consulting opportunity that involves both HRD skill expertise, and personal commitment to the human work experience. Client need investigation, referral source relations, and consulting integrity can be explored to address a deeper understanding of consulting in HRD practice. (As Provided).
