AbstractTeacher attrition has been a growing problem that affects the education system, including K-12 schools. So far, limited solutions have shown to be effective in curbing teacher attrition in schools. Some of the effects of teacher attrition are poor student performance, poor quality of education, and negative financial implications associated with the need to replace teachers frequently. Some of the major factors that have caused teacher attrition include working conditions, salaries, wages, school leadership, and students' discipline. The factors were explored to ascertain the extent to which tenured and non-tenured teachers perceived these issues to cause teacher attrition. There is a need for widespread systemic change, which must be initiated to improve the retention of highly qualified teachers, both tenured and non-tenured. Previous studies have attempted to unveil the factors, but have not been able to contextualize to K-12 contexts and distinguish the factors between tenured and non-tenured teachers. Teacher attrition has negative implications as it affects the quality of education and the job satisfaction of both tenured and non-tenured teachers.
