Abstract | The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and the Professional Educator Preparation and Standards Commission (PEPSC) of the State Board of Education are working on a new teacher licensure pathways proposal, Pathways to Excellence for Teaching Professionals (Model). This proposal, if enacted, would restructure the state's system of teacher licensure and the various pathways and compensation approaches, affecting every district, school, teacher, and student. The Public School Forum conducted a series of focus groups to collect, synthesize, and share representative feedback from principals, district leaders (including Human Resources Directors and Superintendents), Educator Preparation Programs, boards of education, and others who will be impacted by or responsible for the implementation of the proposed Pathways to Excellence for Teaching Professionals Model. The appendices are the detailed responses from the focus groups. This document presents the following four appendixes that accompany the brief: (1) Positive Aspects of the Draft Model; (2) Challenges or Concerns; (3) Questions; and (4) Resources Needed.
