AbstractThe "NMC Horizon Report: 2012 K-12 Edition", examines emerging technologies for their potential impact on and use in teaching, learning, and creative inquiry within the environment of pre-college education. While there are many local factors affecting the practice of education, there are also issues that transcend regional boundaries and questions faced in K-12 education; it was with these questions in mind that this report was created. The "NMC Horizon Report: 2012 K-12 Edition" is the fourth in the K-12 series of reports and is produced by the NMC in collaboration with the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), with the generous support of HP's Sustainability & Social Innovation team. The report's format is consistent from year to year and edition to edition, and opens with a discussion of the trends and challenges identified by the advisory board as most important for the next five years. The format of the main section of this edition closely reflects the focus of the NMC Horizon Project itself, centering on the applications of emerging technologies -- in this case for K-12 settings. Each section is introduced with an overview that describes what the topic is, followed by a discussion of the particular relevance of the topic to teaching, learning, and creative inquiry in K-12 education. Several concrete examples of how the technology is being used are given. [To view the 2011 edition of the report, see ED532396.] (ERIC).
