Abstract | Educators need to determine innovative ways to increase student achievement and enhance teaching skills. Online learning management systems are an innovative way to differentiate facilitation and increase student learning. Teachers should explore and learn new skill sets to meet today's technology demands. Online learning management systems are available to teachers in several local schools. However, not all teachers have access or adequate training to use this teaching tool in the face-to-face classroom setting. This case study investigated the perception of faculty members relating to the usage of online learning management systems (LMS) in the classroom through the use interviews, observations, and a focus group. The study has several recommendations for administrators, and teachers on how to implement this type of technology into the classroom setting. Based on the findings of this study, several contributing factors were identified to assist in the successful implementation of an online LMS into the classroom, including (a) the vital importance of continuing systemic support at diverse levels and in different formats, (b) the need for pedagogical support in addition to technology and assistance, and (c) the requirements for professional development to address specific challenges. Teacher perceptions and attitudes were reviewed qualitatively, and best practices reviewed. The use of the qualitative case study allowed for individual review of perceptions related to online learning management systems in the classroom.
