AbstractThe purpose of this study is to provide new information regarding the experiences of ultra-Orthodox mothers' raising a child with autism in the United States. Although there is previous literature in the field of the experiences of mothers raising a child with autism, there is a dearth of literature exploring the experiences of this subculture. Therefore, this study increases the available knowledge in the field of understanding the daily experiences of mothers raising a child with autism and the effect on the family dynamic. The researcher used a qualitative case study to better understand the experiences that these mothers face and the effect it has on the family unit. The qualitative study looks at the experiences of the mothers while raising a child in the subculture of ultra-Orthodoxy. The population comprised of all mothers raising a child with autism in the Tri-state area, have three or more children, are ultra-Orthodox, speak English and have used the Floortime model with their child. The sample consisted of 10 women who volunteered to participate and signed an informed consent. The data analysis was conducted using bracketing, line by line interpretation, categorical aggregation and thematic analysis. The findings included themes of challenges such as stress related to schooling, financial and emotional support, and behavior management. The findings also included helpful supports such as ABA and Floortime interventions, community support and faith. Of the 10 participants, five participants reported Floortime as a helpful intervention, and four reported ABA as a helpful intervention.
