AbstractEvery school has an organizational habitus that represents its allocated resources, mission, perception about students' cultural capital, and the school counselor's expectation and behavior related to college admissions. A school's mission, resources, and assumptions about students and their families affect the college choice process of students in that school. Christian high schools and Christian colleges and universities ascribe to a shared philosophy of Christian education that has as its foundation a Christian worldview. This study describes San Francisco Bay Area Christian high school college admissions counseling according to the four domains of organizational habitus as they relate to Christian higher education. Asked about a series of school behaviors related to timing, availability, and support for college admissions counseling, students answered that the schools' behaviors presented both Christian higher education and other higher education in the same manner. However, students did not perceive that there was an organizational mission that emphasized Christian education. Overwhelmingly, students perceived that they did have parental support to attend a Christian college or university. Ultimately, students did believe that their counselors' expectation was that they attend college and that a Christian college was an option, but the school was not a substantial factor in providing information about specific Christian colleges and universities.
