Abstract | Engaging the online learner is a prominent issue that is certain to affect the future success of online learning. A critical step in progressing on this issue is to understand how public and private sector educators' adopt distinctive approaches to meet the diverse needs of their environments and their learners. The paper uses a thematic approach to gain an understanding of similarities and differences in public ad private sector educators' experiences and perceptions to effectively engage the online learner.
