AbstractThe Saginaw Prekindergarten Program is designed to provide four-year-olds with an environment that will enable them to develop skills needed for future success in school, and to prepare inner city children for entry into kindergarten. The objectives of the program include specific achievements in 16 cognitive skills, psychomotor skills, and parental participation areas. An evaluation of the 1995-96 program was conducted. The Prekindergarten Saginaw Objective Referenced Test (PK-SORT) was used to measure outcomes on the cognitive and psychomotor objectives. The results showed that the program attained nine of the nine objectives in the cognitive skills area, and three of the four objectives in the psychomotor skills area. The objectives dealing with the Parents as Partners participation areas were also evaluated, and results showed that the program attained all three objectives. (Six appendixes present: (1) 1995-96 Title I prekindergarten objectives; (2) number of prekindergarten participants by building as of January 16, 1996; (3) Prekindergarten Saginaw Objective Referenced Test (PK-SORT) 1990; (4) decision rules for prekindergarten participation and parent participation tally sheets; (5) percent of students attaining mastery on PK-SORT by building; and (6) prekindergarten families attaining objectives regarding Parents as Partners.)
