| Abstract | Many testing programs include a section of optional questions in addition to mandatory parts of a test. These optional parts of a test are not often truly parallel to one another, and groups of examinees selecting each optional test section are not equivalent to one another. This paper provides a general method based on missing-data methods for non-ignorable non-response (R.J.A. Little and D.B. Rubin, 1987) on an optional part of a test. The method is compared with other methods used to put optional test sections on comparable scales. If validity issues are resolved, this sensitivity analysis method could eventually provide a basis for the combination of scores based on optimal portions of a test with those based on common sections of a test. Eight tables and 31 graphs present results of the analysis. There is a 15-item list of references. (Author/SLD) |
