Abstract | This volume outlines the requirements and content of a first-year course in allied health occupations education that is intended to prepare students for entry-level employment in such allied health occupations as nurse's aide and health assistant. Addressed in the individual units of the course are the following topics: health worker qualifications; career opportunities in the allied health field; basic medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; legal and ethical responsibilities of a health assistant; medical aspects of infection control; sick patient care; proper care of patient unit equipment and supplies; growth, development, and the maturation process; diet and nutrition; and safety. The first part of the volume sets forth standards pertaining to the primary objective of the course; its content; its target audience, duration, and prerequisites; and course requirements. The bulk of the guide is a unit-by-unit listing of behavioral objectives that are cross-referenced to various textbooks and instructional resources. Concluding the volume is a sample student evaluation checklist. (MN) |
