Abstract | This introduction to the Open University contains an historical overview; a description of undergraduate, postgraduate, and associate-level courses of study; and information on course components, including printed material, television and radio, tuition and counseling, assignments and assessments, summer school, and course teams. Data and information are provided on: the types of staff employed by the University; student applications and admissions for 1971-77; student sex and date of birth for 1971-76; occupations of applicants; and the educational background of graduates. The structure of the University, student participation, finance, and the success of the system are discussed. (SW) |
