AbstractThis paper comments on the role of the publication "Accent on ACTFL" in the area of public relations and foreign language education. Concrete suggestions for gaining student support for secondary-level foreign language programs include advertising, curriculum guides for future students and counselors, peer involvement in instruction, contacts with higher education, and mini-courses. Some "Accent" articles on these topics are cited. The paper concludes with a list of ideas for promoting foreign language study, including a foreign language newspaper, photography, correspondence with parents, guest appearances of language students in other classes, invitations to community members to participate in foreign language classes as guests, language instruction to parents and school staff, the celebration of relevant foreign holidays, film festivals, exchange programs, theatrical productions, teacher exchange, and the interaction of high-school students with students at lower grade levels who will eventually attend the high school.
