Abstract | The readings in this anthology explore different aspects of leadership in education, an area that has been slighted in texts on educational administration. Frequently leadership is equated with administration. The result is that the dynamics of effective management have been left unexamined. Boles has drawn his readings from many disciplines, since no one area of expertise can adequately or completely describe the leadership process. This anthology is organized in four sections dealing with social setting, the role of the leader, the individual characteristics and styles of leaders, and the leader's occupation at present and in the future. Specific articles examine group dynamics, communication, accountability, and theories of education. Articles by such authors as Ivan Illich and Margaret Mead are included in this collection of 50 readings. (DS) |
