Abstract | This unit, an interdisciplinary ecological approach to study communities in nature, considers various types of relationships such as mutualism, commensalism and succession to determine general characteristics of a community and interrelationships between communities. Designed for primary school children, food chains, food webs, reproduction, competition and job opportunities related to communities in nature are presented. The unit includes cognitive, psycho-motor and affective behavioral objectives, expected student criteria for evaluation, pretests and posttests, suggested methodologies for teaching each concept, relevant background information, a vocabulary list, student data sheets and a bibliography of both student and teacher resources.
