| Abstract | The objectives of the study were to assess certain qualities of existing industrial arts programs in the State of Washington in an effort to describe the accepted industrial arts discipline in that State and to compare those existing programs with a group of selected innovative programs, trendsetters, as determined in a prior study. The research sample was drawn from all teachers, supervisors, and teacher educators in junior high schools, and teacher institutions in Washington, selected at random to conform to the blocking and stratification categories of the research design. Conclusions were based on the overall return of 77 percent of the sample who arranged a packet of 50 statement cards as they ranked in order of importance to a particular program. A Q-sort of the data enabled the author to arrive at seven conclusions in which the differences between the Washington groups and the innovators are discussed. A seventeen-page bibliography and fifteen appendixes of data tables and correspondence are included. (AG) |
