Abstract | This report describes an experimental study designed to manipulate and test cross-cultural similarities and differences in interpersonal perception despite the increasingly cosmopolitan nature of people from all cultures, greater frequency of social, business, educational and governmental contact among people from different countries, and the concomitant need for more accurate knowledge and a better understanding of both culture-based and culture-free personality factors. The study reported here was undertaken as part of a larger effort directed toward solving some of the technical and methodological problems of transnational personality and person-perception research as well as conducting an investigation into some specific issues regarding interpersonal interactions. Data for this study consisted of the responses of 451 middle managers from the United States, India, Norway, United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, and Spain. Several tables of results and a list of references are included. (Author/RL) |
