| Abstract | The first section of the contribution addresses the question: how relevant is the "theology of the cross" for children and teenagers. What follows is a survey of (empirical) studies, which deal with the question of what and how children and teenagers think about Jesus' death. (Tamminen 1993, Hanisch/Hoppe-Graff 2002, Hanisch-Bucher 2002, Ziegler 2006, Albrecht 2007, Zimmermann 2010, Roose und Kraft 2011, Schwendemann 2011). While some articles focus explicitly on Jesus' death, others address the topic within a wider range of theological interest. This might be called the "children's theology of the cross" or the "theology of the children". This article discusses whether the results of these studies serve as a solid base or starting point for an educational process using the method of "theological dialogue" (Theologisches Gespräch). This aspect represents a "theology with children" on Jesus' cross. The didactic aim of these dialogues should be the individual development and growth of the theological competence of the children. Finally, difficulties in understanding the death of Jesus are analyzed, distinguishing between children's and teenagers perceptions. This analysis reveals the necessity of exploring the didactic concept of "theology for children" in order to increase the domain specificities in understanding Jesus' death. |
