Abstract	"Recent events have required labor economists to rethink their approach toward the markets. The global economic crisis of 2008/09, rapidly changing demographic divisions, increasing youth unemployment rates, fueling movements such as those in the Middle East, and an increasingly multipolar world are contributing to shifts in the global labor market.; A Primer on Policies for Jobs - based on materials and input provided during labor market courses conducted during the past decade - emphasizes six pillars of labor market institutions: global trends, job creation, labor market policies, education, entrepreneurship, and globalization. This in-depth look analyzes previous policies and makes recommendations to improve competitiveness in labor markets. The primer provides government policy makers, researchers, and labor market practitioners with a practical guide on how to strengthen labor market institutions, especially in light of the global financial crisis."
