Abstract | The article follows the question whether and to what extend "Adult Education" (or "Adult and Continuing Education", ACE), in a modern and application oriented understanding, could take a priority in development policy. Many projects deriving from adult education competencies are still being administered under the title "social structural reform processes" (structural adjustment policies). The modern understanding of adult education comprises areas and subjects, which were almost up to now being regarded as a part of other sub-branches of educational and social sciences (such as environmental education, minority policy, intercultural dialog, labour market policy, health education). Even in many international publications "education" is shortened to formal basic education (EFA), vocational training and higher education, which is not appropriately on the line with the concept of lifelong learning. The article argues that the term "adult education" in a broad perception should be used by development policy. (DIPF/Orig.). |
