Abstract	This contribution describes in a first chapter the sites of production, collection and circulation of national information on education. The second chapter is about the data analysis and decision-making in the current education reform process in Uruguay underway since 1995. The last chapter treats the production of information for disseminating results... . In his conclusion the author expresses both the difficulties that need to be faced and his own faith in the current education reform. This reform is very much centered on the belief that, without a minimum amount of information, decisions cannot be taken. The information received by decision-makers is riddled with short-comings that make it difficult to use. Efforts are therefore being made to computerize educational information centres and to set up a series of regularly updated indicators for the education system. Responses to the weak links between information, research and decision-making are two-fold. On the one hand, computerization and the availability of indicators will make access to information more democratic and will create a growing interest in undertaking research to help solve current problems; on the other hand, there is a need for small units, staffed with highly qualified personnel. Such units should be able to assimilate research experiments currently conducted through external co-operation programmes and be responsible for disseminating the resulting information. (DIPF/orig.).
