Abstract	In this contribution the author gives an introduction to the education system and to educational policy and research in Barbados. The different institutions of educational research and their activities are characterized. The education reform which has been launched in 1995 and the reform proposals are outlined. Finally recent research studies on primary and secondary education are presented. The author concludes that "while education research in Barbados is stiil in its infancy, there is evidence to show that over the last five years or so here has been a steady increase of activity in this area. Moreover, it is also evident that a greater attempt is made to use research findings to inform policy and influence decision-making, and to develop more relevant and appropriate education programmes. However, it has pointed out that interest in and commitment to researhc as the basis for policy and decsion making and on the extent to which the individuals in those positions understand the importance of researhc to these processes."
